Dutch private taxi company Taxi Electric has partnered with Japanese automaker Nissan Motor to enhance its green-energy zero-emission fleet by adding the new 100% electric Nissan e-NV200 taxi.

Introduced in 2011, Taxi Electric currently operates its transportation business with a fleet of 25 100% electric Nissan LEAF vehicles.

Extending this collaboration, both firms are partnering to introduce the Nissan e-NV200 taxi in summer 2014.

Nissan Motor executive vice president Andy Palmer said that Taxi Electric was the first to prove that zero-emission taxis - in the form of Nissan LEAFs - are a viable alternative.

"Their pioneering spirit closely matches ours, and we are certain they will continue their success with the ground-breaking Nissan e-NV200," Palmer added.

Taxi Electric founder Ruud Zandvliet said: "We are very excited about the e-NV200 as it is designed to be a taxi. This will improve our offering and open new business opportunities for us."

Beside this, the city of Barcelona has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Nissan to promote it as a taxi for the Spanish region.

Nissan will start the global production of the Nissan e-NV200 in May 2014 and will roll out during summer 2014.
